Now here is one of the prettiest little flowers we have ever seen, the Blue Lily. It’s the petals of this flower that are full of ancient wisdom. Famously used by the ancient Egyptians, but also the Mayan cultures Blue Lily petals are revered for not just their psychoactive properties but their symbolism. Found in the art of ancient Egypt, Blue Lily plants are used to represent sexuality (on the Turin Papyrus women are shown wearing only a Blue Lily head dress), rebirth (the flowers open in the morning and close at night), and are also the symbol of the united Upper and Lower Egypt. Now don’t get confused with Blue Lotus, (many well clever men have), they come from different families (Lily: Nymphaea Caerulea, Lotus: Nelumbo Nucifera) but do share the chemicals Nuciferine and Aporhine). Nuciferine is soluble in alcohol, which is why the oldest way to ingest Blue Lily petals is to steep them in wine (for 3 weeks!) strain the wine and drink it. Petals can be boiled for 10-20mins in water for quick cup of rather pleasant tea. If you wish to the petals can also be smoked. The art of the Mayans depicted Blue Lily Petals with sacred toads. Oh and I nearly forgot, Blue Lily petals are said to improve your memory. We Vixens just love the Blue Lily, (the Blue Lotus is very pretty to) it is really worth the wait to infuse into a glass of wine as it complements the alcohol wonderfully.
